What Are Skill Points in Pro Clubs?
Skill points in Pro Clubs are the currency you use to improve your Virtual Pro's attributes. You earn one skill point every time your player levels up, and you spend them directly on stats like pace, shooting, dribbling, defending, and physical attributes. Your entire player build is defined by how you distribute these points - which makes every decision matter. Wasted skill points at lower levels can put you at a disadvantage against players who planned their build from the start.
How Many Skill Points Do You Earn?
In the current EA FC title, you earn one skill point per level, and the max level cap sits in the range of 25 to 50 depending on the game version. That means your pro will have somewhere between 25 and 50 skill points to allocate over their full development arc. Because resets are costly or unavailable without a full rebuild, treating each point as a permanent commitment is the right mindset.
The Build Customisation System
Skill points feed into several attribute categories, each of which contains multiple individual stats:
- Physical: Sprint speed, acceleration, strength, stamina, jumping, aggression.
- Technical (Shooting/Passing/Dribbling): Finishing, long shots, crossing, short passing, ball control, agility, reactions.
- Defending: Tackling (standing and sliding), interceptions, heading accuracy (defensive), marking.
- Goalkeeping: Separate pool for GK-specific attributes - diving, handling, kicking, reflexes, speed.
Each skill point investment raises one attribute by a set amount, typically 3 to 5 stat points per spend depending on the attribute's base value and your body type. Higher-value stats become more expensive to raise at the top end.
Plan Before You Spend
The most important advice for any new Pro Clubs player is this: plan your full build on paper before spending a single skill point. Many players spend freely in early levels and then find they don't have enough points left to hit the thresholds that matter in their primary attributes. Unlike Ultimate Team, Pro Clubs builds are not designed for frequent resets - rebuilding typically means starting your XP progress over or paying in-game currency for a reset, depending on the platform.

Which Attributes Matter Most by Position
Not all stats are equal, and the position you play fundamentally changes which attributes are worth investing in:
- Strikers (ST, CF): Finishing, acceleration, sprint speed, agility, reactions. Secondary: shot power, positioning.
- Wingers (LW, RW, LM, RM): Acceleration, sprint speed, dribbling, agility, crossing. Secondary: finishing if you're cutting inside.
- Attacking Midfield (CAM, CM): Short passing, ball control, vision, agility, reactions. Secondary: long shots.
- Central Midfield (CM, CDM): Stamina, short passing, interceptions, standing tackle. Secondary: strength.
- Defenders (CB, LB, RB): Standing tackle, interceptions, strength, heading accuracy, pace. Secondary: positioning, marking.
- Goalkeeper: Reflexes, diving, handling. Secondary: kicking and speed for sweeper-keeper roles.
Going Deep vs Spreading Thin
The single most common mistake in Pro Clubs skill point allocation is spreading points across too many attributes. A player with 60 in five different stats is almost always worse than a player with 85 in two or three key stats and lower numbers elsewhere. This is because many in-game mechanics have effective thresholds - a sprint speed of 88 or higher feels categorically different to 79, and finishing at 85 or above is the difference between reliable conversion and frequent misses.
The recommendation for most positions is to identify two or three core stats, invest deeply in those first, and only spend remaining points on secondary attributes once your core is maxed or near-maxed. For a complete breakdown of effective builds by position, visit our best builds guide.
How Playstyle Unlocks Interact With Skill Points
Playstyles in EA FC are special bonuses that fundamentally change how certain actions feel in-game - things like a Finesse Shot playstyle improving curve on shots, or a Power Header playstyle making aerial finishes more powerful. Some playstyles are unlocked by reaching specific attribute thresholds through skill point investment, while others are tied to your body type or position. Before spending skill points, check which playstyle bonuses are available for your position and what attribute thresholds unlock them. Hitting a playstyle threshold is often more valuable than the raw stat increase alone, so these should factor into your planning early.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Investing in defending stats as a striker - unless you play a pressing role, this is wasted.
- Ignoring stamina - running out of energy in the second half directly reduces your match rating and XP.
- Maxing pace before finishing as a striker - both matter, but finishing converts chances into wins.
- Copying a build from a different body type - height and weight affect how your stats translate in-game, so a build designed for a 5'9" player won't work the same way on a 6'2" player.
