Archetypes in EA FC Pro Clubs define your virtual pro's stat growth path and unlock exclusive playstyles at specific level thresholds. Choosing the right archetype for your position from the start is one of the most important decisions you'll make when building a competitive pro.
What Are Archetypes?
When creating your Virtual Pro, you select an archetype that determines which attributes receive the largest boosts as you level up and allocate skill points. Each archetype also unlocks a signature playstyle at a high level milestone - typically the most impactful perk for that role. Different archetypes for the same position emphasise different aspects: pace vs power, creation vs destruction, shooting vs crossing.
Goalkeeper Archetypes
Shot Stopper (Recommended for most GKs)
Focuses on reflex saves and command in one-on-one situations. Ideal for GKs who stay on their line and rely on positioning and reflexes to make saves. After finishing the complete goalkeeping skill tree - which is the priority for all GK builds - any remaining skill points go into Pace and Agility for cross-goal mobility.
Sweeper Keeper
More aggressive positioning - better at charging off the line and distributing quickly. Pairs with Rush Out and Footwork playstyles. Best for GKs who read the game well enough to know when to leave their line without getting caught out.
Centre-Back Archetypes
Boss (Recommended)
The top CB archetype in crossing-heavy metas. Unlocks Aerial Fortress playstyle at high level, making it significantly stronger at clearing crosses and winning aerial duels in the penalty area. Most serious CB builds run Boss for this reason.
Progressor
Prioritises ball-playing ability alongside defensive stats. Better passing and vision for CBs who like to build from the back and carry the ball forward when space opens up. A viable alternative if your CB role involves more than just defending.
Engine
Pace-focused CB archetype. Gives the fastest possible recovery speed - best for high defensive lines where you need to outrun attackers who get in behind. High risk but high reward when executed correctly.
Fullback Archetypes (LB/RB)
Marauder (Recommended)
The definitive fullback archetype. Balances attacking pace and crossing ability with solid defensive attributes. Unlocks playstyles suited for overlapping runs and wide play. Most attacking fullback builds run Marauder - it provides the best of both defensive work and offensive contributions without sacrificing either.
CDM Archetypes
Recycler (Recommended)
The definitive CDM archetype. Prioritises defensive stats with solid passing for ball recycling after winning possession. Unlocks defensive playstyles naturally through leveling. If you're playing as a holding midfielder or defensive anchor, Recycler is the clear choice - there's no real competition at this position.
CM Archetypes
Maestro (Recommended)
The best all-around CM archetype. Prioritises passing, vision, and dribbling for a box-to-box style of play. Unlocks passing-focused playstyles through progression. If you want to be involved in both attack and defence without committing fully to either extreme, Maestro gives you the highest ceiling.
CAM Archetypes
Creator (Recommended)
Tailored specifically for the number 10 position. Prioritises vision, passing, and dribbling above all else. Unlocks Incisive Pass through the skill tree progression - the single most valuable playstyle for a creative midfielder. If your role is primarily to create chances rather than score them, Creator gives you the attributes and playstyles to do it at the highest level.
Winger Archetypes (LM/RM/LW/RW)
Magician (Recommended for inverted wingers)
The most popular winger archetype. Unlocks Finesse Shot as a playstyle - transforming the cut-inside-and-shoot winger into one of the most dangerous positions in the game. Best for wingers who play on the opposite side to their strong foot and look to cut in and shoot rather than cross.
Spark (For traditional wide play)
Better crossing ability and pace-based wide play. Suits wide midfielders who stay wide, deliver crosses, and contribute defensively. Less goal threat, more creative width. If your club relies on crossing rather than inverted play, Spark is the better choice.
Striker Archetypes
Finisher (Recommended for most strikers)
The top striker archetype for goal-focused play. Prioritises finishing, positioning, and shooting stats throughout the level progression. At a high level milestone, unlocks Low Driven Shot+ - one of the most effective goal-scoring techniques in the game, keeping the ball along the ground and beating goalkeepers in 1v1 situations. Most serious ST builds run Finisher.
Target (For aerial/hold-up play)
Prioritises strength, heading, and aerial ability. Unlocks Precision Header at a high level. Designed for target man strikers who operate on crosses and set pieces rather than through balls. Best choice when your club runs a crossing-heavy system with good wingers who can deliver quality balls into the box.
Can You Change Your Archetype?
You can change your archetype, but doing so may reset or affect your skill point allocation. Think carefully before switching, especially at higher levels. If your current archetype clearly doesn't fit your playstyle, the earlier you switch the less it costs you.
