The CB Stopper is the aggressive centre-back build in EA FC Pro Clubs - one who steps out to press, wins duels before the striker can turn, and physically dominates the defensive area. This build suits clubs who want to press high and shut out danger early rather than sit deep and absorb attacks.
Physical Build
- Height: 6'1"–6'4" (185–193cm)
- Weight: Heavy (close to maximum)
- Body type: Stocky or large
CBs need physical dominance above almost all else. Height helps in aerial situations - the most common way Pro Clubs teams score from corners and crosses is by outjumping the CB. Maximum height and weight isn't always optimal though - you need enough Pace to recover when beaten in behind.
Recommended Archetype
Use the Boss archetype. It unlocks Aerial Fortress at a high level - the strongest CB-specific playstyle for crosses and set pieces, and critical in crossing-heavy metas. The Boss also provides solid overall defensive stat growth. See our archetypes guide for all CB options.
Skill Point Allocation
- Defending (Defensive Awareness, Marking, Standing Tackle): The foundation. Max these before anything else - they're what the game's rating system judges you on most heavily as a CB.
- Jumping + Heading Accuracy: Aerial duels are a core CB responsibility - corners, crosses, and high balls. Both jumping and heading need investment.
- Strength: Physical battles against strong strikers who want to hold up play in your area.
- Pace (Acceleration + Sprint Speed): Enough pace to recover position when beaten in behind. This is more important for high-line formations - slower CBs are exploited by pacey forwards.
- Reactions + Composure: Quick decision-making in 1v1 and blocked shot situations. Low reactions means you hesitate when the right choice is obvious.
Recommended Playstyles
- Anticipate: The best CB playstyle. Increases standing tackle success and makes stepping up to press attackers significantly more effective. Your highest priority unlock.
- Aerial: Improves winning aerial duels - both defensive headers and the ability to clear crosses convincingly from set pieces.
- Block: EA nerfed auto-blocks in EA FC 25, meaning manual blocks are now required. Block playstyle improves how effective these are when you throw your body in the way of shots.
- Bruiser: Knocks smaller, lighter attackers off the ball before they can turn and create a chance. Pairs particularly well against pace-based strikers who try to spin on the last pass.
How to Play This Build
- Step up early and win the first duel. The Stopper doesn't wait for the attacker - it presses and wins the ball before they have space to turn. Jockey briefly then tackle at the first clean opportunity.
- Communicate with your partner CB. One CB steps up; the other covers the space in behind. Don't both advance simultaneously.
- Stay on the direct line to goal. Don't be drawn wide - keep yourself between the attacker and the centre of your goal. Forcing the attacker wide gives your GK a better angle.
- Claim your corners. Be vocal about which runs you're tracking at set pieces. The Stopper should dominate the six-yard box on corners.
Alternative: Ball-Playing Defender
For a CB that builds from the back and contributes to possession, see our Ball-Playing Defender guide. It trades some defensive aggression for better passing and composure on the ball.
