What Is a Clean Sheet in EA FC Pro Clubs?

3 min readUpdated March 4, 2026

A clean sheet is when a club completes a match without conceding a single goal. The term comes from the traditional practice of keeping score on a sheet - finishing with nothing written against you means the sheet remains "clean."

Who Gets Clean Sheet Credit?

In Pro Clubs, clean sheet credits are awarded to defensive players who were active during the match:

  • Goalkeeper: Always credited with a clean sheet if no goals are conceded
  • Defenders (CB, LB, RB): Credited when the team keeps a clean sheet
  • Defensive midfielders (CDM): May receive partial credit depending on game logic

Strikers and attacking midfielders are not credited with clean sheets - it's a stat specific to players in defensive positions.

Why Clean Sheets Matter

Clean sheets are the most reliable indicator of defensive quality. A club's clean sheet percentage tells you more about their defensive organisation than goals conceded alone, because it accounts for match count. A club that keeps 40% of their matches scoreless is well-organised defensively regardless of what their total goals conceded looks like.

For individual GKs and defenders, clean sheets contribute positively to match rating and are highly visible on your player profile - a stat scouts and teammates use to evaluate defensive value.

How to Improve Your Club's Clean Sheet Rate

  • Coordinate defensive shape. Human players maintaining position prevents gaps from opening. See our defending guide for fundamentals.
  • Use the right formation. Formations with a double CDM (4-2-3-1, 4-2-2-2) provide more defensive cover than single CDM setups. See our formations guide.
  • Communicate on set pieces. Corners and free kicks are where most preventable goals come from. Mark runners, call for the GK, hold your defensive line.
  • Don't commit too many players to attack. The more humans pushing forward, the more AI-only cover you have in defence. Balance is key.
