Long Ball Pass Playstyle Guide EA FC Pro Clubs (2026)

4 min readUpdated March 4, 2026

Long Ball Pass is a playstyle in EA FC Pro Clubs that improves the accuracy and trajectory of switches of play, long diagonal passes, and other long-range passes. It benefits defensive midfielders, centre backs, and any player whose role involves distributing the ball over long distances.

What Long Ball Pass Does

Long passes - switching the ball from one side of the pitch to the other, playing a diagonal over the top to a winger, or clipping the ball over a defensive line from deep - are one of the most effective ways to break compact defensive shapes in Pro Clubs. The problem without a playstyle is consistency: long balls can overshoot, undershoot, or land in the wrong position, turning a potential chance into a turnover.

Long Ball Pass tightens the accuracy on these longer passes and improves the trajectory so the ball travels on a better arc and lands more precisely for the recipient. A switch of play that previously dropped a yard short of the winger or required them to stretch suddenly arrives cleanly at their feet or chest. A long diagonal over the top lands in the channel with the right weight for a striker to run onto rather than skipping away from them.

For centre backs who like to drive play forward with long passes out wide, or CDMs who switch the ball quickly across the pitch to find space, Long Ball Pass is a consistent source of value. Every match involves situations where the right pass is a long one, and having the accuracy to execute it reliably is the difference between maintaining possession and gifting the ball to the opposition.

Long Ball Pass+ (Plus Version)

Long Ball Pass+ makes long balls land almost perfectly for the recipient. The trajectory and weight are so well calibrated that your teammates can take a clean first touch and continue their run without adjusting. It removes the inconsistency from long-range passing entirely and makes diagonal switches and balls in behind significantly more reliable tools in your team's build-up play.

Best Positions for Long Ball Pass

  • CB: Centre backs who play out from the back and switch play diagonally across the pitch benefit enormously. A CB with Long Ball Pass can open up the pitch from deep on a regular basis.
  • CDM: Holding midfielders who drop deep to receive and then switch the point of attack quickly use long balls frequently. This playstyle makes those switches more reliable and accurate.
  • CM: Box-to-box midfielders who play balls in behind or switch play from wide midfield positions can also benefit, though it is less essential here than for deeper positions.

When to Use Long Ball Pass

Long Ball Pass activates on long-range passes - switches of play, diagonals, and balls over the top. It is most effective against compact teams where you need to move the ball quickly across the pitch to find space, and against high lines where a well-weighted ball over the top puts a striker through on goal. The playstyle pays off in almost every match because long passes are a constant feature of defensive build-up regardless of the team's tactical approach.

When to Skip Long Ball Pass

Strikers and wingers who primarily receive long balls rather than play them gain no direct benefit from this playstyle. If your role is to run onto the end of switches rather than initiate them, skip Long Ball Pass in favour of a finishing or movement playstyle. Goalkeepers who do not distribute with long passes also have limited use for it.

Long Ball Pass pairs naturally with Pinged Pass for a complete passing build covering both medium-driven and long-range distribution. See the CDM holding midfielder build guide for how to combine these playstyles effectively.
