Archetypes are preset build templates in EA FC Pro Clubs that determine which attributes your Virtual Pro can upgrade to their highest values and which playstyle slots are available to you. Your archetype is the single most important decision you make when creating or rebuilding your pro.
How Archetypes Work
When you create your Virtual Pro, you select a position and then choose an archetype within that position. Each position has multiple archetypes designed around different playstyles. For example, a striker can choose between a target forward archetype focused on physicality and heading or a pace-and-finishing archetype built around bursting in behind defenses. The archetype you choose sets the ceiling for specific attributes. Some stats will cap higher than they would under a different archetype, while others may be limited entirely.
Archetypes also determine how many playstyle slots you receive and which playstyles are unlockable. A technical winger archetype will open up ball control and dribbling playstyles that a physical winger archetype may not have access to. This creates genuine differentiation between players in the same position on the same team, encouraging role specialization.
Once selected, changing your archetype requires resetting your Virtual Pro, which resets your skill point allocation but not your level or XP. This means you can experiment with different archetypes without losing your leveling progress, though it does require you to redistribute all spent skill points from scratch.
Why Archetypes Matter
Choosing the wrong archetype for how you actually play will leave meaningful attribute points on the table. A center-back who picks an archetype optimized for passing distribution rather than aerial duels will find their heading and defensive positioning capped lower than teammates who chose more defensively focused builds. Over time, as you allocate all 160 skill points, this gap becomes more significant in competitive matches.
Archetypes also matter for team composition. A well-organized club will have players who have selected archetypes that complement each other, ensuring the team has coverage across technical, physical, and positional roles rather than everyone building identically.
How to Choose the Right Archetype
Before selecting, consider three things: your position, your playstyle, and your team's needs. If you are a central midfielder who primarily focuses on defensive work, a defensive midfield archetype with strong interception and stamina caps will serve you better than a box-to-box build. For most positions, there is one or two archetypes widely considered optimal for competitive play.
How to See Archetype Information
In-game, archetype details are displayed during Virtual Pro creation and in the pro customization menu. On PROCLUBS.IO, player profile pages show your Virtual Pro's stats, giving you a way to compare your attribute totals against other players in similar positions across clubs.
Tips
- Research the attribute caps for your chosen archetype before spending any skill points, as some stats cap lower than you might expect.
- Coordinate with your club so that different players in the same position choose different archetypes when it makes tactical sense.
- If you reset your archetype, write down your previous skill point allocation so you can redistribute efficiently without second-guessing every decision.
