Best Skill Moves to Learn First in Pro Clubs

6 min readUpdated March 4, 2026

Skill moves in Pro Clubs separate good wingers from great ones. You do not need a full catalogue of 5-star tricks - you need three or four moves that work consistently under pressure, and you need to know exactly when to use them. That is the entire secret.

Why 5-Star Skills Matter (But Not for the Reason You Think)

Having a 5-star skill rating on your player opens up moves like the elastico, heel-to-heel flick, and tornado spin. But the real value is not those flashy moves - it is the underlying agility and animation speed those ratings unlock. A player with 5-star skills executes every dribble more smoothly. The animations exit faster, which means you can play on quicker after the move lands. If you are building an attacker or winger, prioritise your archetype and attributes to hit 5-star skills early.

The Ball Roll - Your Most Reliable Weapon

The ball roll is the move you will use most often. It is a simple lateral push of the ball while standing, executed with the right stick held left or right. Used near the touchline or the edge of the box, it creates space for a cross or shot. The key is timing - perform it as a defender commits to the tackle, not before. Done correctly, the ball rolls past the defender's leg and you accelerate into the space behind them. Simple, repeatable, effective.

The Drag Back - Escaping Tight Situations

When you receive the ball with a defender pressing tight, the drag back pulls the ball away from pressure in one clean motion. Hold L2/LT and push the right stick backward (away from the direction you are facing). You swivel instantly and open up space in the other direction. This works at any star skill rating, which makes it essential for every position - not just wingers. Central midfielders and even defenders use it to escape press and switch play.

The Stop-and-Go - Breaking Defensive Momentum

Defenders in Pro Clubs track your speed and try to match it. The stop-and-go exploits this by killing your momentum suddenly, letting the defender overrun you, then accelerating again. Hold L2/LT to brake sharply, let the defender slide past, then burst. It is not a traditional skill move input - it is a dribbling principle. Pair it with a slight directional change and most AI defenders or even human players will lunge through thin air.

The Fake Shot - The Most Versatile Move in the Game

Press shoot then immediately tap pass (or vice versa, depending on your preferred input) while holding a direction. The fake shot shifts your player's body weight, sells the direction to the defender, then opens a new angle. Used inside the box it creates shooting lanes. Used wide it simulates a cross before cutting in. Advanced players chain the fake shot into a low driven shot for a devastating cut-inside combo. Learn this move and use it in every game.

Body Feints for Players Without 5-Star Skills

Not every player needs 5-star skills. If you are playing a box-to-box midfielder or a target forward, body feints are your primary tool. Tap the right stick left or right briefly without holding it - your player shoulder-drops to one side. It is subtle, but it shifts defenders just enough to open a passing lane or a shot. You do not need a star rating to perform body feints, and they work even in high-pressure situations where flashier moves get shut down.

The Biggest Mistake: Overusing Skill Moves

Every experienced Pro Clubs player has been on a team with someone who tries to skill past three defenders every time they get the ball. It does not work. Skill moves work because they are unexpected. Use them once per situation, then play the ball. If you use the same move twice against the same defender in the same match, they will read it and tackle you cleanly. Variety and timing beat repetition every time.

Connecting Skill Moves to Playstyles

The Quick Step playstyle enhances your dribbling exit speed after a skill move - specifically the first three steps after the trick, making separation easier to maintain. If you are a winger, this is one of the most impactful playstyles to target in your build. Check the best playstyles by position guide to see which combinations work for your role. Your skill rating also interacts with playstyle unlocks, so building correctly matters from early levels.

Track Your Progress

Check your dribbling stats and match ratings on PROCLUBS.IO. If your average rating is consistently below 6.5 on the wing, your skill move success rate in tight situations is likely a contributing factor - more so than finishing.
