Pro Clubs Lag and Connection Issues Explained

4 min readUpdated March 4, 2026

Lag in Pro Clubs refers to the delay or stuttering that occurs between your inputs and what happens on screen during an online match. Because Pro Clubs puts up to 22 real players in a single session, it is one of the most connection-sensitive modes in EA FC, and lag from any participant can affect the experience for everyone in the match.

What Causes Lag in Pro Clubs

The most common cause of lag is a high or unstable ping between your console or PC and EA's match servers. This is influenced by your physical distance from the server, your internet connection quality, and the number of devices sharing your bandwidth at the same time. Unlike a one-on-one game mode, Pro Clubs sessions depend on a larger number of player connections staying stable simultaneously, which increases the chance that at least one player introduces latency to the session.

NAT type is a second major factor. Your NAT type describes how your router handles outbound and inbound network connections. Open NAT allows the freest communication with EA's servers and with other players. Moderate NAT introduces some restrictions but usually still works acceptably. Strict NAT is the most problematic: it limits the connections your console can establish, which means Pro Clubs may struggle to place you in well-populated matches and is more likely to put you in sessions with players whose connections are incompatible with yours, resulting in lag.

Background applications and devices also consume bandwidth and processing resources. Streaming video, active downloads, or other devices on the same network during a session can push your available bandwidth below what a stable Pro Clubs match requires.

Basic Fixes to Try

Switching from WiFi to a wired Ethernet connection is the single most reliable improvement most players can make. WiFi introduces variable latency and interference that a wired connection eliminates entirely. Beyond that, port forwarding for your console's Pro Clubs ports can help move you toward an Open NAT type if you are currently on Strict or Moderate. The specific ports required are published by EA and vary slightly by platform.

Closing background applications and pausing any active downloads before a session ensures your connection is fully available for the match. On consoles, suspending any media apps in the background makes a measurable difference on lower-speed internet connections.

Is the Lag Your Issue or EA's Servers?

EA's Pro Clubs servers occasionally experience degraded performance or outages. Before spending time troubleshooting your own connection, check the EA server status page at help.ea.com, which provides real-time reports on server health by region and platform. If EA's servers are reporting issues, local fixes will not help until the server-side problem is resolved.

In-game, you can get a rough sense of connection quality by watching for the connection indicator during a match. Persistent rubber-banding or desync, where players appear to teleport, usually signals a server or host connection issue rather than something on your end specifically.

How to Check Your Connection Quality

Most consoles have a built-in network test that reports your download speed, upload speed, and ping to a reference server. Run this test before a session to establish a baseline. A ping under 50ms and a stable upload speed above 5 Mbps are generally sufficient for Pro Clubs.

Tips

  • Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of WiFi whenever possible for the most stable experience.
  • Check EA server status before troubleshooting your own setup when lag appears suddenly or is worse than usual.
  • Enable QoS settings on your router if available, prioritizing your gaming device's traffic over other devices on the network.
