Far Throw Playstyle Guide EA FC Pro Clubs (2026)

4 min readUpdated March 4, 2026

Far Throw is a goalkeeper playstyle in EA FC Pro Clubs that enables much longer overarm throws, turning hand distribution into a genuine counter-attack weapon. It benefits goalkeepers who want to bypass the midfield quickly and trigger fast transitions rather than playing short and building from the back.

What Far Throw Does

In EA FC Pro Clubs, goalkeepers have several distribution options after making a save - short roll, medium throw, long throw, goal kick, and drop kick. The overarm long throw is usually limited to roughly a third of the pitch's length, which restricts your ability to launch immediate counter-attacks without the ball being intercepted in midfield. Far Throw extends that range significantly.

With Far Throw equipped, the goalkeeper can deliver the ball into the opponent's half directly from a throw, bypassing their press and reaching attackers who have made runs in behind. This is a tactical shift - it means a quick save can immediately become a scoring opportunity without going through a build-up phase. The team's attackers need to anticipate and time their runs, but when coordinated, it's one of the fastest transition tools available in Pro Clubs.

The playstyle is particularly valuable against teams that press high after losing the ball. A high press leaves space in behind, and a Far Throw bypassing the press directly is difficult to recover from defensively. It turns the goalkeeper into an active transition asset rather than just the last line of defence.

Far Throw+ (Plus Version)

Far Throw+ allows throws to reach almost half the length of the pitch. This is a dramatic extension - where the base version clears the midfield press, the plus version can put the ball into the opposition's defensive third directly from the goalkeeper's hands. For a team with fast, run-in-behind attackers, this turns every save into a potential direct counter-attack opportunity. It's a high-ceiling playstyle for the right team setup.

Best Positions for Far Throw

  • Goalkeeper (GK): The only position that uses this playstyle. The primary benefit is for goalkeepers whose teams prefer fast, direct counter-attacking football over possession-based build-up.

When to Use Far Throw

Far Throw is most effective when your team has pace upfront and uses a counter-attacking style. If your wingers and strikers make runs in behind when you're defending, Far Throw turns every save into a transition opportunity. It's also valuable against teams that press aggressively - the longer throw bypasses the press and immediately puts the opposition on the back foot. If your club communicates well and attackers are timing their runs, Far Throw rewards that coordination directly.

When to Skip Far Throw

If your team plays a possession-based style and prefers to build from the back with short distribution, Far Throw adds nothing. It's also less useful if your attackers don't make runs in behind or the team doesn't coordinate on counter-attacks. In that case, Footwork for better short distribution or Rush Out for 1v1 stopping are likely better investments.
